This past week I spend puttering around the office and at home. It was really a nice change of pace for me. Here are some of the things I accomplished this week.
- I drank lots of coffee
- If you would like to go for coffee I would love to hang out!!!!
- I spent lots of money
- We are going to do some renovating so let the spending begin.
- I did lots of thinking
- I mean intentional thinking - like about the church and the future of the church.
- And yes, I did jot my thinking thoughts down because I am at an age where I forget way too much.
It was during my thinking time that I began the process of planning for my future at McDougal Chapel. Now here is the thing about planning for the future. A person needs to be totally honest in order to effectively move towards a new goal or vision.
Let me give you an example. This spring, I would like to take part in a 5 km run in Red Deer. This is an intentional goal that I have. Now here is the challenge.
If I am not fully honest about my current situation, achieving that goal is going to be very difficult. I can honestly say that I need to get in better shape before I can achieve my goal of finishing a 5 km race. So before the race even happens, I begin to prepare. I train in a way that my goal is achievable.
I have a goal and vision for this church that has been built while watching the Christian world during a pandemic. In times of struggle, I saw the church, Christ's bride, become divided. I observed that all the solutions to the struggles from followers of Jesus were not consistent. So I was left with a question on my heart that I have not yet fully answered.
When the next crisis hits the Church, can we learn from what we have gone through and be better prepared?
I think we can handle crises better than we have in the past but here is what needs to happen. I need to be totally honest as to where McDougal Chapel is at and where I am at personally. Then, from that honest place, intentionally lead. Why would I make assumptions or come to conclusions that only fit my narrative? I need to come from an honest place.
So here is that honest place.
- I have recognized some of my blind spots. There are places where I am weak and need to correct these weak places. I will be working on my leadership flaws in the next few weeks. I need to address what many have already seen and I need to get better.
- I also want to hear where people are at when it comes to God's Church and their walk with Jesus. I have discovered that people have different priorities for the church and I need to listen to them. I would be pretty self-righteous to think that I have it all figured out so I want to hear you.
I have prepared a small survey to help me listen to you. This survey may be short and simple yet it will help me establish a more honest starting point.
If you would like to contribute your thoughts to my journey then please, follow this link to the survey. JUST WONDERING SURVEY
The information you share will be 100% anonymous so you are free to be honest. I just ask that you answer in a way that will build up God's Kingdom and not tear it down.
Thanks for your help. And stay tuned for the results as I will post them on this blog at a later date.
